AGM 2015
24 November 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
Well it’s that time of the year for the clubs annual general meeting (AGM).
This year the meeting will be held on Tuesday 24th November from 7.30pm at the HYC.
- For those of you have never been to one of our AGM’s, it an important but relaxed night.
- The aim of the night is to:
- Get feedback from each committee member about how things have been going
- To vote in next years committee members
- To make democratic decisions about how the club is run and to discuss any big changes or ideas
- To vote on the annual Putney BSAC awards for:
- Best photograph
- Biggest foul-up
- Best diver
- Best communication and promotion
- Best contribution to the club
A good laugh can be had by all learning about the various incidents and situations, club member have got them selves into over the year, and is also a great opportunity to reward those who put in a lot to the club.
A little bit of work that needs to be done to keep things running and for that we, the club members elect the committee each year to keep things ticking over.
Being on the committee is a really rewarding experience, and in my personal experience, really helped me to feel a sense of belonging and become passionate about our club and what we do. The roles are not very hard and don’t require a huge commitment.
The roles available are:
Chair – run the meetings, and try to look like you know what is going on. Encourage folk to join.
Secretary – take the minutes, organise meeting bookings (2 or 3 a year) and write letters (1 or 2 a year),
Treasurer – look after the money
Training – organise training – you do not have to give the lessons, just organise students and instructors
Equipment – look after the kit
Membership – organise membership records, process new joiners and renewals
Communications – manage the web site and try to find other cheap/free advertising
Social sec – parties! And other events. A hugely important and rewarding role, but also one most people can do!
Boat – look after the boat
Diving Officer – safe organisation of diving and training
These can be doubled-up or shared.
Nominations for awards or positions on the committee can be made by filling out the form below and returning it to me prior to the meeting or handed in on the night or by a nomination from the floor on the night of the meeting. Just because someone is already in a role doesn’t mean that you can’t nominate someone else who you think will do a good job.
If you are interested in joining the committee and not sure where your skills might lie, have a chat to anyone in the committee or club, and we would be happy to run you through some of the options.
As for the Dive planning meeting, it would be great to get your RSVP’s for the night as we need to make sure that we have a quorum of members in attendance on the night, to adhere to our club constitution.
While it might seem that there are a number of important club meetings going on at the moment, the AGM and the dive planning meetings are really the most critical to keeping the club going.
The AGM isn’t just for committee members and potential committee members, its a chance for all club members to have their say on how the club is run, and also have a few drinks and a laugh with some like minded people!
