2024 Annual General Meeting

We had a very enjoyable AGM this year with reports from all members of the committee. In short, we’re not bankrupt yet and we had no incidents so everyone had a very safe year. We had more capital expenditure on our boat trailer and costs all seem to shoot up but we had an increase in membership and applicants for try-dives although sadly we lost some members, mainly do to relocation for work purposes. Awards were also given out to some willing and some unwilling participants. With less diving taking place this year there was less opportunity to make too many mistakes so the Skomer Claw and Michal’s phone (Stoney Diver), both awarded for cock-ups were not really deserved so Alex & Nick are holding onto them for this year. In other business there were a few members who were less keen on some of the proposals which were put forward including reducing the pool usage down to every other week. No-one is keen on enacting that one but with pool fees going up year on year our membership isn’t keeping up. This will be revisited later this year.

The new Committee is made up of:

  • Chair – Jack
  • Diving Officer – Michal
  • Secretary – Emma
  • Treasurer – Alex
  • Training Officer – Unfilled
  • Membership Secretary – Unfilled
  • Comms Officer – Paul
  • Social Secretary – Brian
  • Boat Officer – Steve
  • Equipment Officer – Stephen

As you can see there are some roles as yet unfilled so if you think you would like to take on the role please contact Jack.

Club Awards

Every year we give out 2 prestigious awards for Diver and Club Person of the Year that are voted for by our members.

Diver of the Year is an award presented to members that have used the last 12 months to advance their diving skills and this years it was awarded to Stephen for his general enthusiasm, helping out with equipment and finishing his Ocean Diver training recently.

Club Person of the Year is awarded to a Putney BSAC member that has gone above and beyond and contributed immensely to the club over the last year. This year, the club voted for Jack and the award was also presented by Jack, so ubiquitous was he this year fulfilling all the roles left by departing committee members.

The Photo award this year was won by Lukas in the UK category. See contestants below.

In the Photo Abroad category we had 5 entries but after going to a 3 way tie and had to vote again then Emma’s turtle came out on top. Thanks to all the divers who entered the competition this year.

The final award we present at our AGM  is the Skomer Claw, presented for the biggest diving related mistake or mishap. There’s also a runner up award, the Stoney Diver, such is the likelihood that things just go wrong on a diving trip. Nick just wasn’t happy as you can probably tell.

Winner of the Skomer Claw & the Stoney Diver. Let’s just say that Nick was less than happy but last year’s Lundy cock-up was pretty bad.

Congratulations to all of our award winners, a massive thank you to our outgoing committee members Andrew & George and good luck to this year newly elected committee – here’s to an amazing next 12months.
