18 Reasons why you should join Putney Scuba Club

1. Learn to dive with us or continue your training. We’re happy to guide you from novice to even being an instructor. You’ll have an internationally recognised qualification which means you can go diving anywhere.

2. With the club you can also pursue other underwater interests such photography, biology, archaeology or environmental protection.

3. It’s a cost effective way to scuba diving – As we’re a non-commercial BSAC dive club then all our instructors are volunteers and so lend their time and expertise for free.

4. We have our own club equipment so you can hire from us at very cheap rates but we do encourage and give advice to members to buy their own kit.

5. You will receive the glossy ‘Scuba Magazine‘ each month to keep members informed with Scuba Diving and Snorkel news including dive sites, new kit, other clubs and best practices.

6. Safety: Although this sport does involve some risk, with us we stress safety and rescue skills from the start so you will be taught rescue skills for yourself and your buddy right on your first lesson. Our longer serving members will also be on hand to point out best practices in light of their experiences.

7. Make use of our own dive boat, “Femti’ for club trips on the Thames, boat handling courses and expeditions on the South Coast and beyond to find wrecks and other marine areas of interest. Members are also invited to help maintain the boat and trailer and in doing so to learn more about the mechanics and procedures involved.

8. We have free use of Putney Leisure Centre on Tuesdays between 7.30-8.30pm to train new members, test out kit or just swim (limited family members can attend for swims if notice given) – Entrance to the Leisure Centre is completely free.

9. We arrange social evenings to get together with other members to check out local activities, restaurants or bars every few months.

10. We have access to our social club HYC on most Tuesdays to catch up with other members after training or to do theory lessons or just have a pint (drinks are discounted).

11. You are joining a community of like minded adventurous people who are interested in diving and who have years of experience to fall back upon. You will be automatically added to our WhatsApp members group so you will always be kept head of developments.

12. We issue a number of newsletters to keep everyone up-to-date with reports from recent dive trips, news affecting members and invitations to get involved in further club activities.

13. Attend our AGM where you can affect change to our club by voting on issues, voting in new members of the committee and participating in the awards ceremony for club members.

14. Join the committee and help shape the club to function better for the interest of the members.

15. Access to regional & national events and training organised by BSAC.

16. Automatically insured via BSAC’s liability insurance for claims made against you for bodily injury or damage to property, for up to £10m.

17. BSAC discounts – As a member of this club you can get discounts on Dive kit purchases, dive holidays, insurance & even discounts from various high street shops

18. And the opportunity to meet new friends from all walks of life.
